Hiding <?php ?> within Frontpage

Hi guy, I believe there is a way to configure frontpage so that it ignores the <?php and ?> tags. I don't know how to configure it. Does anyone know how to do this?

I had a similar problem and posted a request on here. The response I got indicated that you can switch the <? to ASP tags (<%) and FP will think it is ASP and leave it alone. However, if you go this route, you will need to turn on the section in php.ini that recognizes ASP tags. Hope this helps.

Thanks, I saw that post earlier and we are currently using the ASP tags and Frontpage to code our intranet.

Unfortunately our ISP doesn't want to make the change to accomodate ASP tags so we are unfortunately left with trying to make Frontpage more PHP friendly :-(

Other than Dreamweaver, what other HTML editors support PHP coding? Are there any opensource HTML editors that we could use for free?

Try this one. I have been using it for about 2 years now. It is designed for PHP exclusively and it has been pretty stable. It is also free! It is lacking in some features of its commercial competitors but I like it. http://www.soysal.com/PHPEd/

Allaire Home Site is also a very good editor but it costs about $40 or $50. http://www.allaire.com

A lot of others seem to like UltraEdit. I haven't used it extensively but it does seem quite versatile. It also has a cost of $30. http://www.ultraedit.com/

I will tell you that FrontPage absolutely sucks when it comes to embedded scripting. Don't use it! It can and will mangle your code when you least expect it to. Microsoft's problem has always been that they try and make it so easy for the stupid users, that it inevitably makes it harder for the smarter ones. 😛

Unfortunately......the rest of the people I work with are "the stupid users" that frontpage seems to have been designed for :-(

They refuse to use anything else or pay for something that hasn't come as an Add-On to Office 2000 which we have.

Unless it's free, of course. I will try that PHPEd program that you have recommended.

The only way I ever got FrontPage to work at all and have it not mess with my scripts was to make sure that you open the document as a TEXT document.

It was a while ago and unfortunately I don't remember how I did it.
