php4 for solaris 2.7

I want to install php to my solaris server, which is OS ver 2.7 (aka, 7).

is there a specific install pkg for solaris 2.7, or will most installs work for it.

solaris is SO finnicky that i dare not install a pkg that is not tuned for it, unless it is a pkg that can be tuned (within reason) for it... (i'm SURE there is a pkg for solaris, i just have not found it yet..)

if it helps, i am using apache 1.3.6. i do not yet have mysql installed either.
sunfreeware.com is a great source for this, but does not offer php4 or mysql for sparc 2.7 (solaris).

any information would be helpful!!

For MySql, there is a binary tar file at

http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-3.23.html

I use this without any problems whatsoever.

As for PHP + Apache: I had to compile them on my installation. It's a pain in the arse, but it's probably the only way to get
a decent install that suits your system.

since my post i've gotten mysql 3.23.37 installed and flying nicely!

my next project is the php4 install from source... that seems pretty scary just by the ./gtar-sparc.gz unpacking process... it's HUGE. i got the source from php.net, a little surprised there aren't more platform specific 'distros,' but since it's just an apache module source allows higher degree of configuration (even tho i have no idea how i want it configured! 🙂 )

PHP4 install from source is not as scary as it sounds:
just read the INSTALL file. It gives you the instructions you'll need. I always install from source 🙂

BTW: If you install extra libraries to enable functionality, expect to have to meddle about with the LD_PRELOAD or the LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable.
Solaris only looks in /lib for it's libraries 🙁

Open source rules. I love PHP 🙂

i'm a newbie all the way with PHP, but absoutely love what it stands for and what i will soon be able to do with it...
