apxs present, but configure doesn't like

I've installed (rebuilt) apache to use DSO. Now I'm trying to install PHP 4.0.4 and getting an error when testing apxs. Here's a bit of the PHP configure session:

% ./configure --with-mysql \ --with-apxs=/usr/ports/apache/apache_1.3.11/src/support/apxs

Sorry, I was not able to successfully run APXS. Possible reasons:
1. Perl is not installed;
2. Apache was not compiled with DSO support (--enable-module=so);
3. 'apxs' is not in your path.
configure: error: ;

Any thoughts?

Hi all,

I figured it out. It turns out that apxs wasn't getting built correctly and still had a bunch of internal variables that weren't configured. I tried different things in an attempt to get it to build right, but to no avail. So I finally opened the script and manually configured the information (all path stuff). That worked.
