mysql and php4 install on solaris 2.7

hello!

i'm installing mysql 3.23.37 on solaris (already gotten past the gtar-sparc issues), and hope to get php4 compiled and running soon too; all to use in conjunction with apache server... i'm a php newbie and can't wait to get testing!

just wondering if there are any install tips for mysql that anyone can offer. i'm at the ./configure portion for it, but don't want to have to redo anything once i give the command (even tho this is where many things can be learned!).

also, where can i find a php4 install that i can compile for solaris 2.7 that will be the LEAST painful?

Hi,
I just installed Apache, mySQL and PHP4 on a
Solaris 8 Box. If you want to install mySQL the simple way, fetch the binary package from SunFreeware (http://sunsite.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/solaris_freeware/) and get it up and running with 'pkgadd'.

I got the php Source from http://www.php.net/downloads.php, used the
--with-mysql,--with-apxs,--enable-track-vars
and --prefix switches to configure.

One problem was that php couldn't find the
libmysqlclient.so.6 lib, so I copied it from
~mysql/lib/mysql to /usr/lib and all seems to be just fine

i found a binary for mysql, no problem installing there!

but i have to re-install apache to enable mod_so.c , and have run into a new problem... even tho i have gcc and specify for my configure scripts to use it, for some reason the scripts won't use it (under apache or php - now i'm just trying to do apache first).

sunfreeware.com has a lot of great stuff, but the gcc-2.95.2 that i have is not working properly for compiling... i'm downloading the latest gcc-2.95.3 for solaris 2.7, we'll see if that works!

I think the problem is the fact that the SunFreeWare.com package installs to /usr/local/bin.

By default the $PATH variable is set to:
/usr/sbin:/usr/bin

set it to:

PATH=/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin

Has ANYONE been able to compile PHP 4.2.1 on Solaris 9 (or 8)?

I am having a devil of a time doing this. The configure directive goes well, but when I run the make I get the following error:

make: Fatal error: Command failed for target 'zend_language_parser.lo'
Command failed for taget 'all-recursive'

apparently a language problem somewhere but I cannot figure it out. If anyone has ANY ideas whatsoever I'd love to hear them.

I'm really starting to hate Solaris.
