where does a php install live?

hello!

i'm installing php4 to my solaris 2.7 machine and was wondering, where does it need to live on my machine?

i have apache 1.3.6 in /usr/local/apache, /usr/local/mysql, etc...

does php4 need to live within /usr/local/apache, since it is an apache module?
