Folks ... I don't know the answer to your questions but I suspect you will get better results if you simply indicate a particular error message and let someone solve THAT for you and then post the next error message and so on. If both of you have been scrupulous about following the installation instructions on the php / apache / mysql web sites then you are encountering specific problems. As it is, all you have said is "I am having trouble ... fix it." without stating what the nature of the probem is.
Can't compile? Seem to compile fine but can't start the program? Can't tell if PHP is working or can't create a database in MySql or can't get Apache to display a page you think contains valid PHP code? Be specific and you'll likely get answers.
Because I don't know what I am doing, I understand your frustration; but for others to solve your problem, you must first define it. Otherwise, their hands are tied.
