On Apache my PHP files get Downloaded

I can't figure out how to make it so that Apache doesn't think that my PHP files are like a text file, rather than attempting to parse the file it just sends the code...

Could this be due to the fact that I didn't config PHP with "--with-apache=.../" I didn't know what directory my httpd.h file was in so I just compiled it...

Sounds like you haven't set the AddType parameter in your httpd.conf file yet.
depending on your php version, it should look something like this:
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

or for PHP 3.

AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3
AddType application/x-httpd-php3-source .phps

Try recompiling Apache thus...

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/apache \

--enable-module=so

make

make install

Then try recompiling PHP

rm config.cache

./configure --with-mysql --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache

make

make install

This will install a dynamic module in /usr/local/apache/libexec called libphp.so If you check httpd.conf there should be a line that reads

LoadModule php4_module libexec/libphp4.so

All you need to do then is un-comment the two lines that read

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

That should do the trick......

I tried exactly what you said but I keep getting this error message

./configure: /usr/local/apache: is a directory

Sorry, I was not able to successfully run APXS. Possible reasons:

Perl is not installed;

Apache was not compiled with DSO support (--enable-module=so);

'apxs' is not in your path.

configure: error: ;

I just installed the most recent version of perl today and I know that it can't be number 2 because I definitly type it. But I don't quite understand 3 so that could be it... Please help...

note: where are the logs of the console, I am getting sick of retyping every error...
