win2k + apache + php4 = not found error

Hello,

Got Win2k w/ all the Service Packs and updates done from Windows Update. Got the newest version of Win32 Apache installed (not beta) - and I got it all working smoothly and error free.

Now comes installation of PHP4. Followed the instructions at www.thickbook.com/extra/php_apachephp4_win.phtml to the T. (They're dummy friendly and written in English, step by step.)

PHP install was supposed to be easy, but when it came to testing whether it worked - I was slapped in the face with following error:

Not Found
The requested URL /webdev/php4/php.exe/phpinfo.php was not found on this server.

Apache/1.3.20 Server at www.fobiopatel.cjb.net Port 80

Well: /webdev/php4/php.exe is where I have my PHP4 extracted to - and I am trying to run it as CGI (no module stuff going on) - my Apache is installed at /webdev/server/Apache (and the root directory is /webdev/server/Apache/htdocs)

My httpd.conf file is default - aside from the extras I was instructed to add from the site (address included) above.

If anyone could PLEASE help me figure out what the heck is going on- how to fix this- and get up and running it would be GREATLY appreciated. I've spent the bulk of the day trying to figure this out, and the other half banging my head on my desk, monitor, and PC.

I Used to have the same problem. You have to give the location of the php completely-including the diskdrive. Here is my setting loading php as a module:

#Setting for PHP
LoadModule php4_module D:/Php4/sapi/php4apache.dll
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml

-----end-----

Move your php directory to the root of a drive. That seem to solve my problems.

Hi, my installation ran clearly from the first time(Win2k Pro, Apache 1.3.19, PHP 4.0.5).
I simply followed the instructions and all works fine.
But there is other interesting fact:
By the same time i have installed Apache, IIS5 was started and it worked. After Apache installation(to port 80 by default) i had 2 web servers working simultaneously and listening to the same port.
For my big surprise, when i have requested the URL - the response came from Apache - strange, indeed!
Further more - i done the same procedure under Win 98/PWS4 - but there PWS took advantage...

I gather that you installed apache on top of the IIS and the PWS on top of apache, don't you ?

Thank you for your advice! I was missing the:

LoadModule php4_module D:/Php4/sapi/php4apache.dll

Line in my httpd.conf file. I added it right above the AddType line you mentioned, and it worked!

Though I didn't have to move PHP4 to root, I could keep it in webdev directory and it was alright there: C:/webdev/php4

Even after installing IIS after Apache it behaves this way on my Win2k.

Though I have no problems with this, because Apache rules! 🙂

Very odd. Moving the php directory from c:/web/php to c:/php cleared up the problem that I was hav8ing with that nasty error that was reported above.
