RedHat7.1 & php re-config

Hi all.

My problem is that I have no idea where/how to re-configure php to add more functionality on a RedHat7.1 with apache and php already installed with RedHat. Please if somebody knows share the info on how to re-configure. Thanks.

I think this is causes by instaling all the packages with the tar.gz and trying to re-config or install new functions with .rpm.

I had the same problem.
The best thing you can do is to download all the source you need (apache, php, gd, expat, freetype, mysql, ...) and build it by yourself. The process of building PHP is explained in the PHP manual.

Do you think the problem´s that php & apa are installed by tar.gz and would be installed throuth rpm?
I´m going to try to install it with the .rpm files.

I don't think so.
In my opinion you have to remove all rpm packages related to php and apache and substitute them with binaries compiled by yourself. Probably this will make harder the management of this packages (You can find some script that can help you doing this on freshmeat.net), but surely you'll have no more troubles.

Howzit people.

Thanks for all the replies, haven't tried it yet. It just seems that there should be an easier way than to remove the whole package.

There are a few php commands like "php-configure" if anybody knows how to use these commands please let me know.

I don't mind doing the hardcore re-compiling thing but come on, why re-invent the wheel everytime I want to add functionality to php.

I only want to develop not re-write the kernel.
