Browser keeps trying to download files??

Whenever i load my test.php file in browser it keeps trying to save it.

What do i do?

I'm running PHP 4.0.6

and Apache 1.3.x

Apache is working fine.

I expect its something to do with apache's config file, but i m not sure what? When I type C:\php\php.exe -i in the command prompt I get all the html code, which I hear means PHP is functioning correctly?

Any help would be appreciated a great deal!

Try adding:

AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .php4 .php3 .phtml

to your apache configuration file.

Also, if you compiled PHP as an Apache module, make sure you also have:

LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so

in the config file too.

yup, you're right. it has something to do with apache's httpd.conf file.

do this (at the addtype section):

ScriptAlias /php4/ "c:/php4win/"
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php3
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php4
Action application/x-httpd "/php4/php.exe"

check for typos, and then restart apache.

Ok i added that exactly as you put it in to my apache config file.

now, when i click test.php (it is configured to be opened by internet explorer) nothing actually opens up. i get the hour glass for a second and then nothing happens.

i then renamed the file test.php4

it asked me what program to use to open it, i chose internet explorer. and the page said:

<? echo(\"Nothing to write\"); ?>

what am i doing wrong? I m quite sure my php.ini file is configured correctly.

my install directory for php is c:\php
my install directory for apache is c:\apache

your test file:
<? echo(\"Nothing to write\"); ?>

it should be:
<?php echo(\"Nothing to write\"); ?>

anyway, here's an excellent tutorial on W-A-M-P (Windows, Apache, MySQL, PHP). That's where I learnt to get my WAMP to work. :-)
