403 Error when using localhost?!

Hi,

I have Apache 1.3.20 installed and running fine on my computer. I installed php4.0.5 and after initial trouble had everything worked out. could run .php files under http://localhost/ with no problem.

however, after resetting my computer. using WinME and now coming back to win 2000 I cannot access localhost. i get a 403 error. :

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.

Apache/1.3.20 Server at 127.0.0.1 Port 80

Thats what it says. I didnt change my config around at all and I have no idea why its suddenly changed!

Any suggestions please?

What happens if you use 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost?

Thanks for the interest but i managed to solve the problem, searched around on the web for it. It was actually something to do with the <directory> settings in my Apache config file.
