Installing GD library

I'm aw98 user and i've download the zip file of GD from www.boutell.com, in this zip file there are a lot of C file but i don't understand how to build them i've read information in the documentation and i've used borlan C++ builder 5.0 but in the gd.c file there is the line: include <zlib.h> and when i compile ai receive an error.
Someone can help me? Somewhere exist a compiled version of this library?

aw98 - well i am assuming that means "a windows user 98" :-)

well, download the entire PHP version for the windows os. extract it to lets say c:\php, and now in the "extensions" directory or c:\php\extensions there should be a file "php_gd.dll" - place this file in ur windows directory, try it in c:\windows\ , system, system32 or whatever, not sure of windows 98.

place a phpinfo() in some file and check to see if u have gd support.
