Adding GD Module

Hey, Linux running here, php 4.xx and mysql. Now I want to add the GD module, since I want to create Graphics with php. Every time I try to compile the GD kit, I get a compiler error. Now I removed a module from the makefile, and the install worked correctly. restarted httpd, but still cannot call a gd function (like imagecreate())
(The removed module was freetype)
Can anybody share this problem with me, or has somebody got a solution for this?

Have you recomplied PHP using the appropriate options to let it know that GD exists on the system? Have you edited php.ini and added the following line:

extension=gd.so

Also, what flavour of Linux are you running? I know that PHP packages exist for both Debian and RedHat that are preconfig'ed to use GD. These can be grabbed using apt-get on Debian and whatever the equivalent is for RedHat (the actual command slips my mind at the moment🙂. HTH,

Hello Eduard.

You cannot just compile PHP with GD without
making sure you have GD on your system.
Linuxes generally have gd.so already installed by default. However, you should have its code (gd.h and associated packages) in order to compile.

In my CONECTIVA 6.0 linux (www.conectiva.com.br), gd comes in a package called libgd-devel.rpm (where means the version of the pack). Hope it helps.
