Change Permissions

Hi.. I need some help and i dont know much bout php, but im usin phpMyGuestbook and when i try to install it it makes the mysql database and all but it wont make the config file cause of the permissions. How am i soppose to change it? I tried usin the ftp and chmod it 777. Heres the error i get:

Could not open for writing. Please check permissions and try again.If unsure, check with your server administrator.

try ./config.inc.php

or the full path... you aren't pointing to the right place... and because you are opening for write it will try to create the file if it doesn't exist, and your process doesn't have rights to do that in that folder.
