Problems installing php4.0.6

I have been trying to install php4.0.6 on my linux machine for over a week now, and I keep on getting the same problems. I am running redhat linux 7.0, with apache 1.3.12.
The install (configure, make, make install) seem to go flawlessly (i deleted config.cache before configuring), and I have added the LoadModule, AddModule and AddType lines as follows:
LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.so
AddModule mod_php4.c
<IfModule mod_php4.c>
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .phtml .php3
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
</IfModule>
I moved the php.ini-dist to etc/php.ini, and haven't changed that file at all.

Unfortunately my test file <?phpinfo();?> still does not work (I have enabled short tags, and tried it with <?php, but that didn't work either). There MUST be another reason that the php files aren't being processed...doesn ANYONE know how to get this problem fixed?

Well....wow!!!woooooooohooo! It works! I just changed the extension_dir to where the libphp4.so file is located in the php.ini. This didn't work right away tho...i had to reboot the server for the changes in php.ini to be recognized.

Next time, a simple apachectl restart should work, and if that doesn't do it, then try 'killall -9 httpd' (do not use killall on solaris, it means something different there.) followed by either 'httpd' or 'apachectl start'

I´ve got the same problem, and i don´t have installed any rmp, how could i solve it, whitout these? Where should i locate the libphp4.so if i have it?

I'm not an expert at this by any means, but I have it where the rest of the .so's are. eg.libperl.so,etc (it is created when you compile/make the source). Just make sure that you specify this in the extension_dir line in your php.ini file. I think it should work as long as you point it to the right file, location...shouldn't matter where you put it..but again, i'm no expert. Also, make sure that when you restart httpd/apachectl (i don't apachectl for some reason) that the changes in your php.ini are being recoginized. I wasted a lot of time on that because the changes were not doing anything and that's why i rebooted.

hi, i'm also having problems when trying to connect to mysql. I have installed MySQL and i want to start off by setting a password for the root user. I tried this by using:

/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h www.domain.com -p password 'new-password'

After i executed this i get to typ in a password, i first tried the admin password (used to connect to the server, cobalt raq4) and after that i tried to leave it open, so i did not insert a password. With both methods i get the following error:

/usr/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'www.domain.com' failed
error: 'Host 'www.domain.com' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server'

I a little bit stuck with this problem, hope one of you can help me out here.

(i've installed Mysql 3.23.37 on a cobalt raq4)
