httpd doesn't start!

Ok....i'm not even sure where i should be posting this, but httpd does not work anymore. The httpd script hasn't been working for about 1.5 weeks, so i was just using the binary instead. Unfortunately, now the binary isn't working either...or at least it doesn't appear to be working...i know it's reading the httpd.conf file because if i put an error in there, it finds it. when i use the binary and do: httpd start/stop, nothing is returned. The error_log file is empty. How can i solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In addition to the previous post:
when i try and run the httpd script and try to stop it (./httpd stop), it FAILED. when i check the status (./httpd status) i get httpd dead but subsys locked. It does not work if i delete httpd from ../lock/subsys/.

This is why i was starting httpd using the binary.

i'm assuming you are using apache (that is some important info)

what would also help is the version of apache. if you aren't using the latest version, upgrade, and if the problem still exists, then post again
