mail() not supported in this build

I'm running Apache 1.3.20 with PHP 4.0.6. I installed Sendmail but haven't really "configured" it.

When I run the mail function, I get the following error:

mail() is not supported in this PHP build in (script line number)

Any clue how to resolve this issue? It's really a setup problem but I don't know where to look for the answer.

Your page is broke. How about posting the data here (in addition to your place)

How I fixed this was by simply recompiling php. If php doesn't find sendmail in the system path (AT TIME OF COMPILE) it will disable the mail functions.

So make sure sendmail is in your path when you compile.

that's pretty much what the article I had was saying...

unfortunately my dad dropped my db! and now all my articles are gone. 🙁

Yeah, but that can't be the REAL solution... What about other configurations? I had a QMail server, I prefer it over sendmail coz his security and speed.
The point is... Do I HAVE to install sendmail before compiling PHP to get mail() support? or there is an additional compiler flag I should use?

No you just need the sendmail wrapper for it to be happy!

Then do a recompile! 😉

This is what I understand by "recompile":

make clean
make
make install

Is this ok? Or must I run ./configure again also?
