debian & php & xml & apache

hello,

i try to run a self compiled version of php4.0.6 on a debian system. i compiled it with the options --with-dom=shared,/usr and '--with-xml=/usr'. when i try to start the apache server i get the error '... undefined symbol: xml_utf8_decode'.
i think it's not a library that's missing, cause when i install a precompiled version of the php4.0.6 module it works.

any idea?

i removed the option --with-wddx and now it works!!!

I was getting the same problem and had a path specified for the --with-xml setting as you have. I think this is the problem. This setting does not expect a path to be given. In fact this option is enbled by default, so try just removing this option (--with-xml) and recompiling (make sure you do make clean and remove config.cache before re-running configure). The xml module includes a version of expat so it doesn't need to link to anything.
