Is it possible to use a windows/linux partition to replicate the dominant client/server behaviour of the internet that of a linux server hosting apache/php/mysql feeding dynamic pages to a client using internet explorer on windows.

Can this kind of arrangement be set up with your IE browser requesting pages from behind the partition ?

Any thoughts or insights would be kindly received.

Hi Paul,

 I hope you are talking about running two operating systems in the same machine at the same time ( in your case it is Linux / windows ). You need a BIOS simulator for that. May be you could use VMware. but remember it is a commercial product and your windows OS will run as a process.Other alternatives like Win4Lin do exist. If I remember , there was also an open source effort on this (bochs, I suppose).

VMware works great.
You can run linux under windows or windows under linux.

Both OS's will be fully aware of the system's resources so you can setup windows to run under linux, and still get it to use the network, printer, etc.
