./configure command not found

I'm trying to recompile php with mysql.

im in the source dir
/usr/bin/

I ran this command
'./configure' '--prefix=/usr' '--with-config-file-path=/etc' '--disable-debug' '--enable-pic' '--enable-shared' '--enable-inline-optimization' '--with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs' '--with-exec-dir=/usr/bin' '--with-regex=system' '--with-gettext' '--with-gd' '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr' '--with-png' '--with-zlib' '--with-db2' '--with-db3' '--with-gdbm' '--enable-debugger' '--enable-magic-quotes' '--enable-safe-mode' '--enable-sockets' '--enable-sysvsem' '--enable-sysvshm' '--enable-track-vars' '--enable-yp' '--enable-ftp' '--enable-wddx' '--with-mysql=/usr/bin/mysql' '--without-oracle' '--without-oci8' '--with-xml'

but its giving me an error:bash: ./configure: No such file or directory

any help will be great

...don't think that /usr/bin is your srcDir. run ./configure in the directory which was created when you untared your php

how do i find that. I did not configure php before

actually i did not untar it, is there a way like 'which' 'whereis' 'locate' taht will tell me the directory

You didn't configure php before???
How did you install it? rpm?
Why do you need to reconfigure php?

If you need to configure php you have to download it from www.php.net.
Unzip and untar it:
gunzip php-4.0.5.tar.gz
tar -xvf php-4.0.5.tar

change to the source directory:
cd php-4.0.5

there you'll find:
1. a file called 'configure' (here you can run your command....)
2. a file called INSTALL which will tell you how to install php with apache.
