PHP with DOM

I have SUSE 7.0 with libxml2-2.4.10-5 installed. When I try to compile PHP-4.0.4pl1 with DOM (--with-dom) I get:
checking for DOM in default path… not found
configure: error: Please reinstall the libxml >= 2.2.7 distribution

I also try to compile with “—with-dom=/usr/lib” because libxml libraries are there, but I get the same results.

What is wrong?

I can't offer a solution, only ask that if you find an answer, PLEASE let me know. I have the same question posted and so far no luck. (w/ RH 7.1 php4.06)
