can't use php ttf functions on suse7.3

Hi all... I'm a novice...
I can't use ttf functions on php module installed on a suse 7.3;
I think this distribution has compiled php module without freetype directive.
Now, How can I have ttf function? I'm not so smart to compile php from zero (sigh): it' gave me errors...
Someone can Help me?

Hm, i'm not a real newbie anymore, but I have exactly the same problem. The gd.so is enabled and running (it generates images, rectangles ... pixelparty!) but whenever i use an imagettftext(...), the parser echoes an error like: 'blabla... this configuration of apache does not support TTF.'

I'll do some research and come back. Otherwise: Please help me, too.
