Running mySQL on OSX

Hi there,

I installed mySQL version 3.23.47, and I got the point where I got this resonse from the server:

Starting myqld daemon with databases from /var/lib/mysql .

I turned my computer off without setting anykind of start and stop commands. Now, I am having trouble launching and setting passwords etc. Everytime I try to start mySQL, it gives me this error:

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock'

I need some help in what I am doing wrong, or how to setup password and start and stop commands. Anykind of help is appreciated.
