Installing GD 2.0.1 for PHP 4.1.1

Hi i've read a ton of messages and can't figure out how to install GD 2 for PHP 4.

I understand i have to recompile PHP with particular options (which i found to differ from message to message).

I have a Windows XP machine and got Visual C++ on it. Downloaded Freetype, libgnp, zlib, and jpeg-6b libs, bins (dlls) and even source... yet have no idea what to do. Also have php 4 both bin and source, and gd2 bin, source, lib.

I understand i have to run make files, can someone remind me how i do that in Visual C++ or whatever (if i need to download GNU or something). And all the changes i need to make to the configure file and the make files?

Please assume i know nothing, lol.

Eaiest way is.... edit php.ini

Why don't you just use GD 1.8.4? It's already included (built-in) in PHP 4.1.1 (source). What you need to do is edit php.ini.

I already did edit my php.ini and used 1.68 i think it's the one included... anywayz point is i need truecolor pics, and the old gd does 255 color palette surfaces. Which messes up my end result badly, i need good quality especially considering i'm mixing a lot of pics with a lot of different palettes which results in a pic with colors changed like brown instead of green, etc... etc.. 🙁(((((

therefor i think i need true color which is done in gd2... and i don't c y somebody doesn't modify php to support GD2 and put up the binaries for Windows and unix or whatever... It would make life so much easier, lol but can't find any, nad can't figure how to recompile this thing.
