I need to use PHP running on Red Hat 7.2 to access an Oracle 8.17 database running on a Win2K server (Not my decision).

This may be a stupid question, but where can I get the oci8 extensions. The only thing I could find on the Orcale sight was the entire database distibution.

Can anyone offer some suggestions?

You need to install the oci8 client. It\'s there...just look hard.

Is it there from the install of Linux, or PHP?

As you may have guessed, I am fairly new to the Open Source Community.

No, you have to install the 8i client, you know, with the Java Installer. Tell your DBA that you need to install the client on your php server, and she should give you a CD or network location. The client is independent as Apache is independent from say, Adobe Acrobat. The Oracle client comes with the Oracle Database and is installed on your php server to allow ANY app on the box to reach an instance on the W2k server. It\'s third party software from Oracle that isn\'t packaged with Linux, PHP, or Apache as it is not free.
