PHP root in Virtual hosts

The simple answer eludes me. But when running Apache with a number of virtual hosts, how can I get PHP, running as an apache module in windows NT, to recognize each virtual host's root directory as specified in the httpd.conf?

PHP usually accepts the arguement of a doc_root in its own config file, but when setting up multiple virtual hosts, how can this apply? I have been told NOT to specify a doc_root at all! but I understand this may be a security risk. Additionally, it still doesn't allow for root-relative calls in my HTML: i.e. "/images/nude.jpg"

If someone else has an answer to this, I'd love to hear it as well.

The best thing I've come up with so far is this:

Base web directory: /var/www/html

Virtual Domain 1: /var/www/html/domain1
Virtual Domain 2: /var/www/html/domain2
php doc_root = /var/www/html

Then, on the domains, issue calls such as: <img src="domain1/images/nude.jpg">

Not that elegant, but it seems to work fine.
