127.0.0.1 ??

I never could get the Apache server (1.3.12) to run locally on my Win Me machine, until I changed the ServerName from "localhost" to :

127.0.0.1

Anybody know what this is, a port number or something?

Anyway, Apache works fine now, so I can now do all my development off-line. Yea!!! It's only taken almost a year to accomplish this task.

127.0.0.1 is the tcp/ip loop back address, for the local network card

most operating systems have the option of installing a loopback adapter that emulates a network card. tcp can be bound to the loopback adapter and set to the 127.0.0.1 address.

local host is generaly a htpp protocol
ie:http://localhost-----.com??¿¿ May have somthing to do with windows host file.
Apache defult is port 80 as you would have guested Therfore unless you are online local host just isnt going to work. But type http://localhost:80 you should have it running no probs.
Hey if you were not on a proxy server anyone could view your developement though you website from your computer.!!!!!!!!
