FreeBSD and MySQL -- 'mysql.sock' error

I've tried installing the MySQL binaries and tried building the source.

When I try to start up mysql the system is telling me it could not connect to /tmp/myql.sock.

This file does not exist. I've scoured the web with no luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

simple. your mysql.sock is somewhere else... probably in /var or somewhere. find it with locate or find or whatever and link it with ln -s to /tmp/mysql.sock
