Upgrade php on suse from 4.0.6 to latest

I checked the suse-website and haven't found rpm for 4.0.6. So I'm wondering what the best upgrade path is to the latest php-version.
Do I have to compile PHP on linux and also other software like Apache or are there easier methods

Get the complete source code from php.net and it will come as a .tar.gz I am running on Slackware myself so mine will look something like:
tar -xvf php-blah.tar.gz
./configure
make
make install

restart your apache server and it should update itself. Just read the README and INSTALL file. Lata!
