Install Apache/PHP on Windows XP

I tried installing Apache and PHP on Windows XP. I thought I had them both installed alright. But when I try to start the Apache service, I get an error that says

"Apache.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Could someone email me or link me to instructions on how to install both of these exactly and correctly?

Buzz - I don't have specific/exact instructions for you, but I just did exactly this - PHP and Apache on Windows - using the distr at php4win.com (or .de).

The best general advice I can offer is follow all the steps closely and def. cut-and-paste the lines that go into the config files; it's easy to drop something when retyping them.

Use easyphp from http://www.easyphp.org and don't forget to install the patch which is included on FAQ page, (somewhere near the bottom), it works very well and you don't have to worry about configuration b'cause its all done 4 u.
