Problems running Apache... help!

I'm currently trying to get Apache web server running so that I can preview php locally. I'm running on a Windows ME OS.

I have installed Apache and PHP4.

When I try to run Apache, the DOS window 'hangs' and I get the following message in the error log:
[Mon Apr 22 16:14:43 2002] [notice] Parent: Created child process -516069
[Mon Apr 22 16:14:43 2002] [notice] Child -516069: Child process is running
[Mon Apr 22 16:14:44 2002] [notice] Child -516069: Acquired the start mutex.
[Mon Apr 22 16:14:44 2002] [notice] Child -516069: Starting 250 worker threads.

Any idea what the problem is, and more importantly how I can fix it????

The console window stays open as long as Apache runs. To start it as a service(ish) on Windows 9x/ME try setting a shortcut up with ehe following :

"C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\Apache.exe" -w -k start -n Apache

and a shortcut to stop the server as :

"C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\Apache.exe" -w -k stop -n Apache

where "C:\Program Files\Apache Group\Apache\Apache.exe" is the path to your apache exec.
