PHP4 - Informix

Hi,
first of all: I'm a PHP-Beginner. I want to run php with an informix 7.31 database. I have one server with php4, apache 1.3.x on a suse linux 7.3. The informix database runs on a Sun - Solaris server. I read something about a Client SDK. Where to get and how can install it ? And what have I else to do ? I looked for an easy howto for my problem, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Can anyone help me ?

I setup a Red Hat 7.2 server with PHP 4.2, Im trying to configure PHP --with-informix=DIR. This is so I can connect to an Informix Database on a different machine. My first attempt was to copy the informix dir from the other machine to the red hat machine so I would have the /lib & /bin dir's on the red hat machine and point the --with-informix= to the local path where i moved the files to. This did not work. Is there something I have to download in order to get this working?

I have PHP accessing Informix 7.31 IDS databases on Redhat 6.0 (Yeah, I know, but Informix is touchy about glibc versions, etc. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.) and Solaris 7 (Intel) systems, but they only access the database on the local system. I've "played" with accessing Informix databases across the network but never had much luck with it. Since it was essential I let it go.

Why don't you just install Apache and PHP on the Solaris box? If you do I highly recommend using the GCC compiler to do your installations.

thank you for your answer. The reason why I don't install Apache on Sun is, that there are a lot of server which I would like to have a connection to them.

I am sorry to bother you but I have been struggling with configuring php with Informix. I have updated php to 4.2.1 but I can not find php_ifx.dll any more. My informix server is a remote server and I have no controll over it so I can not install a web server on the that machine. I have been able to install informix client successfully but I can not make php connect to the db server since php is not configured properly. I thank you for any suggestions in advance.....thankx --jh
