multiple (php.ini) files

Hello,
i am working on a project where PHP has to make
the printer (HP Deskjet 648c) print some text.

i was told that i had to edit my php.ini file,
and when i did a search for it,
it found 4 files that matched...

how many files of this type should exist after a typical
install of PHP 4.04 (non cgi) for Windows 98 Personal Web Server??

and, after editing the line (uncommenting the "default printer"
and extension_printer.dll in all of the files, it still did not work,

it gave me an error of an unsupported function call,
in printer_open()

I forgot to mention
that i am printing locally,
not on a network,
just using a direct connection
via USB to the printer,
an HP Deskjet 648c
