./configure freetds error

I run the following command (straight out of the freeTDS on-line manual, http://www.freetds.org/userguide/x1041.htm) to set up freetds:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local/freetds

And get the following message:

bash: ./configure: bad interpreter: Permission denied

I m running the command logged in as a superuser. The system is RedHat Linux 7.2;
I am installing freeTDS 0.53

All help, ideas, thoughts are greatly appreciated. Perfectly clear, detailed instructions would be a gift from God.

I think you have to login as 'root' permission, as create a directly at /usr/local/ need root permission.

I just try to install in redhat7.2+freetds 0.53, it work fine.
