Apache, and CGI/ISAPI?

Alright, now trying Apache server. What kind of editor do I use to edit the .conf files such as httpd.conf?

Also, could somebody explain to me the difference between the CGI and ISAPI forms of PHP. I understand how to do the installing but I don't understand what they are, how they are used, and which one I should choose. I've read several tutorials and they never seem to explain the concepts, only how to install them. This is all new territory for me.

Ok found the answer to the first question: .conf files can be opened with notepad. Duh!

But still could anybody enlighten me on the second part.
