Variables are ignored...

Hi, I just installed PHP on my home CP (Win2K), and for my surprise I realised that the variables given like:

index.php?variable=value

are ignored... I mean when I try to use $variable somewhere in the script, I just get:

Notice: Undefined variable: variable

I just worked some time ago with PHP and it was fine, no such errors...

For improved security, recent releases of PHP require that you refer to external variables explicitly using the "superglobal" notation. You can turn that behavior off with a .ini file setting, but you would be better off learning the new notation.

In your example,

echo $_GET['variable'];

should work.

The point of this is to force the separation of namespaces for Get, Post, Cookie, etc., input.

I liked the old style a little bit more 🙂

How looks it on old versions, will the

$_GET['variablename']

work also there, or have I to code different scripts for the different versions?
