In general, if you're only going to be using the PHP interpreter for web content, and not a standalone interpreter (like Perl), it's best to install it as dynamic module. However, not all webservers support PHP as a DSO. Apache does. When installed as a DSO, scripts execute without spawning additional server-side processes.
