not able to diagnose which libmcrypt ...

I have installed:
libmcrypt-2.5.2,
mcrypt-2.6.2,
mhash-0.8.16

and when I try to install PHP 4.2.1 I get:

"configure: error: Sorry, I was not able to diagnose which libmcrypt version you have installed."

How can I solve this?
