Can anyone tell me what exactly the file "win386.swp" does? How does this work? Does this have anything to do with your PC-memory? Can you increase your PC-speed when you use this file properly? My file is about 167 MB big and it stands on the route (C:) on my hard-disc. I keep having the problem that with some games my PC crashes, that it is loading and than suddenly it seems to be stuck. I don't get an error-message but the PC just stopes working, like it is full and has no room to continue. Could this "win386.swp" file have anything to do with that? My PC is fast enough for the games I am referring to, when I look at the system-demands.

Hmmm, this is NOT a windows help forum. Anyway. Win386.swp is the 'swap' file for windows32 based systems. That is, it is some 'virtual' memory that is on your hard disk. It's not exactly memory.
To solve your problem, consider having a full (ie WITH surface test) Scandisk.

I had a similar problem to you and was able to get a solution from HP IT forum (http://forums.itrc.hp.com).

It is likely that you are letting windows manage the amount of virtual memory (i.e. hard disk that is being used as memory) on your system - this is akin to saying keep growing until you've taken up all the space.

The solution is for you to set the amount of virtual memory yourself. I advise you to set it at twice the amount of physical memory you have.

You can do this through the control panel, System, Performance, Virtual Memory. You will get a lot of warnings not to do this and let 'Windows take of you'. I didn't have any issues.
