Why does this site have bad layout?

Maybe its just me. maybe its the drugs I am taking to keep me from becoming psychotic but why does this site have retardly huge fonts and a color scheme that would make Elton John's outfits from 1970 puke. Awesome infotmation ugly ass site. Whats the deal with salmon colored red with yellow mouse over hovers?
<---- that menu for "columns" is UGLY. I wish I had an artistic bone in my body and could help you gusy out but I don't. I can say that you guys can do better.

Yes I am using a Microsoft product on an Apple machine. A name is just a name and I am a firmly believe that humor is the best medicine. Have you ever had mad cow disease?

Anyway.. This site is awesome for knowledge. I am just wondering if I am alone with wondering why the layout leaves me feeling woozy. A few of my observations are that

#1 even in 1024x768 I have to open my browser to full screen to read any columns and even then at times I have to scroll horizontal. Having to do that is just annoying. Or is it just me?

#2 The way the text in the columns section on the left wraps the words and makes it hard to read. Perhaps a slight difference in background color from entry to entry would help. Or modifying the style sheet to display in a smaller font... OR perhaps some mreo spacing between the entries. Look at the way the menu above it looks with "home, columns and tips..." displayed and compare the two. I find the top one to be much easier to navigate and much nicer to look at.

#3 All the fonts are really large.

Dont get me wrong, my intention is not to talk trash it is to perhaps give you insight since I am on the outside looking in and those of you who work on this site are on the inside looking out. I would like to see this site become easier to look at and navigate because I know I am not unique and I know others must have the same issues. If the site becomes easier to navigate then more people come to the site, more people submit info and tips and then we are all better off. YAY!!!

I want to point out that I know that on occasion I have made phpbuilder my last stop for knowedge due to the horizontal scrolling pain in the ass. I still show up here eventually if I cant find what I need on php.net. zend.com, webmonkey or other sites. I think the point to an informative site like this would be to be the first place in anyones mind when they want knowledge on php. Then again.. that might just be me.

So while your insulting my OS and web browser choice in an attempt to attack my integrity, I'll be wondering why this site is still my last stop on the php knowedge bus although the knowedge contained herein is superior to others.

Then again.. it's prolly just me.

I work with this site a lot, on Linux, Solaris, win2k and win98,
on resolutions from 800x600 to 2048xsomething.

Frankly I'd prefer this site (or any "hardcore info" site) to be in plaintext, without any fancy layout stuff. Good old Lynx will do thank you very much.

As far as I'm concerned a TABLE statement is fancy enough.
Images and buttons and all that cr*p just make pages bigger and slower and in the end the info is just the same.

But in the end, all that matters is the quality of the information you get from this site. Id the info is good, then who the h*ll cares about how it looks?

But that's my twisted opinion.

PS don't joke about mad-cow decease, people are dying because of it.

The site looks 'Okay' in my opinion, although I do like the older design much better! It had more of a 'feel' to it, and was easier to navigate.

There's my 2 cents.

Fonts are absolutely neat in size on my Win 1152*864 screen. I just resized the window to see the desktop, and it still looks fine. The color scheme can be discussed, but hey, who cares?

Have you checked your browser settings? The View/Font size option can really bomb some sites to oblivion. Just an idea.

If I remember correctly, IE on the Mac displays fonts larger than IE on the PC. That might be the cause of larger-than-normal fonts for you but not for us PC folks.

As another suggested, try setting View->Text Size->Medium (on a PC, at 1024x768 or 1280x1024, that works for most sites).

As for style, the red text with yellow highlighting seems a bit garish to me, but I can barely coordinate my own clothes, so I shouldn't critique someone else's color scheme 🙂
