Apache + PHP + Windows... doable?

I've been skimming around trying to find info on this, but haven't run into anything yet.

Is it possible to run apache + PHP under windows? What are the options? Is running as a CGI the only option?

When it comes to doing things under windows I'm still a little bit of a novice. So any help or pointers to FAQs on this would be greatly apprecieated!

I just saw there is an article that talks about using these together. So I think I can get them working 🙂. (I knew I should have looked a little bit longer)

My other question would now be:
How stable is this? I've got a win2k box that can easily run this. But is it worth it? Will it fall over anytime there is any level of load? Anyone?

I use NuSphere MySQL on my Win 98 box to test php scripts. The current version of NuSphere MySQL includes MySQL 3.23.28, Perl 5.6, Apache 1.3.14, and PHP 4.0.2 . It's supported on Windows 95/98, NT, and 2000. So check it out at http://www.nusphere.com/ .

Oh yeah, it's a free download too.

I have run Apache, PHP and MySQL on my Windows 98 box for more than a year and lately under ME for 6 months. Apart from ME breaking on me with regular intervals (don't upgrade from 98!), the triplet works like a charm. It's fast, small footprint and lets me develop and test all my sites in my familiar Win environment. I have had almost no problems with the transitions to Unix based server hotels. Make sure you have a hotel with PHP4 before you start developing on that locally, though.

I just downloaded the latest Win executables, installed, configured and ran. Easy and highly recommended.

I've been just testing PHP 4.04 and Apache 1.3.12 on Windows NT Workstation, talking to Sybase and mySQL on Solaris.

There are some strange behaviour, like MS Excel won't start unless I shut down Apache, but other than that, I'm pretty happy with this setup for messing around with PHP.

I'm running Apache 1.3.17 and PHP 4.0.4 on a Windows 2000 PC attempting to connect to a Sybase database on a Solaris server.

How did you get the sybase_* functions to be "defined"? I've tried uncommenting the php_sybase_ct.dll extension in the php.ini, but that causes an "illegal operation".
