is php able to send a mail through any smpt-server i choose ? i would have to send host, user and password!

I think it might go off of your IP address. You have to be allowed to send mail through the SMTP server. This should be the same one you use in your email program to read and send mail. If you dial-up, it would be your ISP's server...
