Getting Windows network username in PHP

I have an application that will (eventually) run on an intranet using Windows 2000 and I will need to get hold of the username they used to login to the network for use within my PHP script.

I've looked at "phpinfo()" on my development machine (which isn't Win2000) and it would appear that there is nothing to use but that is hardly conclusive.

Any one tried this? Any ideas?

I would prefer not to require a login into my system as well just to find out who they are but if there is no other alternative...

we do the same,

$network_user = getenv("LOGON_USER");

but only if NT challenge/response is applied otherwise couldn't get it to work.

No problem. I more than understand what it's like. I've spent the last 3 months trying to figure this out. A few places hinted on it, but no one seemed to want to spell it out.
