PEAR and CSV

Ok.

For the absolute beginner here, how on earth do I get CVS working?

I simply want to download the latest version of PEAR DB.

Shouldn't be too hard!!!

I've got the following things ...

cvs.exe (from cvs1-11.zip)
and
cvspear.bat ...

md cvsphp
cd cvsphp
..\cvs -d :pserver:[e-mail]:/repository login
..\cvs -d :pserver:[e-mail]:/repository co php4/pear
..\cvs -d :pserver:[e-mail]:/repository logout

This comes out with ...

(Logging in to [e-mail])
CVS.EXE [login aborted]: could not find out home directory
CVS.EXE [checkout aborted]: could not find out home directory
(Logging out of [e-mail])
CVS.EXE [logout aborted]: could not find out home directory

So.

In 1 syllable words (or not), how do you REALLY get CVS working on Win98SE?

The first thing I would try to find out, is where CVS looks for the

.cvspass file when it doesn\'t have a home directory.

If I couldn\'t find any information about this, I would try setting the
HOME environment variable to point to the NT home directory in the
autoexec.bat file. If that didn\'t work, I would try putting the
.cvspass file in C:\.

If that didn\'t work either, I would be fresh out of ideas...:-)
