I'm in the position where I have to put together a website that the client will be hosting on IIS 4, SQL Server 7.0 running under NT 4.0 SP6a. I'm looking to put together a similar development platform for testing before delivery, and I'm a little bit lost as to which version of MS software I should be going for.
I believe that Windows 2000 Professional (New User Product) running MS SQL Server 2000 (New User Edition + 5 CAL) will be sufficient, coming in at approx. £1,850 UKP. Ideally I'd like to use the evaluation version of SQL Server with it's 120 days limit, rather than buy a licence for this one project; according to the MS site this will run on Windows 2000 Professional.
Is there anything I should watch here, and am I okay to go for this spec for testing?
I'm a little confused over the licensing issue on SQL server, and the difference between per processor and the 5 CAL version; can I still use the later and have a single machine as server and client? Or won't this matter given I am accessing it through PHP?
Will PHP install on this system, and will it require anything else to access SQL server, or does it just work out of the box...
Any and all help and pointers gratefully received.
