User is $REMOTE_USER if you're using IIS. If Apache all bets are off. Users can belong to multiple groups so you need a way to do a win32 api call to ask which groups a user belongs to. This can be pretty complicated. I could create a cgi for you if you want that would let you do this - email me if you want more info.
