PHP program unable to connect to MySQL

I have installed MySQL version 3.23.38 (win32) on my pc. On this pc I'm running windows2000 pro, with IIS 5.0 as webserver.

Is used Winmysqladmin to setup MySQL root user/pass. I also installed ODBC-driver 2.50

A PHP/MySQL-script that I would like to use reports the following error when trying to connect to MySQL:

"Unable to select database!"

What could I have have done wrong here?

Problem solved!

Solution:

copy your php.ini-dist to your windows install dir and rename it to php.ini (replace the old file)

Now, very important: edit the path to your sessions-data dir! In windows explorer copy the sessions-data dir to another location on your harddisk.
