how welldoes php/apache go with windows

Hi,

I need to prepare aa webserver, on wich i will run php apache and mysql.

Im realy not sure wich os to use linux or windows.
I know linux is faster and more stable but the advantage of windows is that i can execute programs i write in pascall and im not able to do that in linux right ?

So my question is . how stable and fast does apache/php/mysql realy perform on a windows 2000 advanced server?

it will be used on lan with an average of aprox 200/300 visits at the same time.

I have had great success running Apache on Windows, with PHP loaded as an Apache module. It is very stable (much more stable than IIS/ISAPI), and moderately fast. I would still recommend running on GNU/Linux. You can write programs in Pascal on linux, using Pascal compilers such as fpk and gpc. Both are compatible with Turbo Pascal 7. Also, Borland is porting Delphi over to linux (to be called Kylix).

aaahh so that is what kylix is.. i saw its name a few times. that sounds very promosing.

IF want a web server very extensible and customizabe, Linux is your choice. Even though microsoft WIN2kAS has many advantages, it´s still the famous "one size fits all"...

For pragrming languages, linux is growing fast and many languages are being ported there "kylix" is a example of that. Windows is a good desktop for my brother, or even my father, but for a wor in progress that is my server I rather use linux, even when I'm not sure of what I´m doing...

Text configurantion is much more efective than point and click

I'm becoming more and more a proponent of Interbase (now open source by Borland) for Linux. Man, it's amazing what you can do with Apache, PHP, and Interbase together. And the best part is that it runs on both linux and windows.
