Settings for mail function in Win32

Dear all,

I run the php webpage under Apache and php4,
I would send email through the web and the setting in php.ini file is as follows

[mail function]
SMTP=mail.netvigator.com ;for win32 only

But the email cannot be sent, please reply me how to make possible configuration setting,thanks

On my Win98 box, mine looks like this:

[mail function]
SMTP = mailhost.worldnet.att.net ;for win32 only
sendmail_from = [e-mail] ;for win32 only

You'll need a valid SMTP server that is accessible from your machine. Since I often use AT&T WorldNet for connectivity, I just set it to AT&T's SMTP server. But anyone outside the AT&T network can't use it. So make sure you've got the right server (e.g., your ISP's).

you have to set the user who is sending the mail . for that you have to specify:
sendmail_from = [e-mail]
in the php.ini file.
also, if you are trying to send from a development machine from inside an intranet to a outside server, you should check your proxy if it allows it..
In my old job I had to test all the mail scripts on the production server, cause of the proxy.
