PHP mysql_connect() doesn't work

On windows 98 with PWS, all the php functions i have tried worked, including the hello word and all other scripts i have written. but when i try to call mySQL (it is up and running pretty smoothly, i have added tables, etc through mysqld), the php parse says: function mysql_connect() undefined or not supported. this is in php4.0 for win32. anybody got suggestions? thanks.

php version could be helpful information.
php4.0RC1 needed php_mysql.dll library and correct declaration in <WindowsInstallDir>\php.ini in order to work, in php4.0.1pl2 the mysql support is compiled in. so littlebit more information is needed ...

Today, I installed mySQL on a windows nt machine using the Apache web server.

I got the exact same error message, that:

Fatal error: Call to unsupported or undefined function mysql_connect()

I don't get it. I can connect to other databases (through odbc), but can't talk to mysql. Thoughts?

BTW, I'm using PHP Version 3.0.16 on Windows NT.

simpliest solution is to dowload latest php for win32 and use that. it works just fine w. mysql because it doesn't need any .dll's (mysql support compiled in) and php4 is muchmuchmuch better (sessions etc 🙂) )

I got a working install of Apache and MySQL on Win98, but not PHP4, installed the latest Win32 binaries still no luck.

I actually uncommented the php.ini line pertaining to php_mysql.dll - should I comment it out again? Since accdg to your post php suppor is included in the php.exe file...

As of now, any php pages are not really reporting an error, it just says, "contacting host, waiting for reply" ...

It willbe nice to have a working local installation of php for dev work, kinda tiresome and time consuming doing it via telnet.
